Smallbear made this post earlier and I found it interesting. If a site I enjoyed all the time for free made this specific ask of me, I’d consider giving it a try. What I prefer is what !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! did, asking me for a $5 donation when I picked up their VLC Media Player. I’ve installed VLC on several machines in recent weeks and was happy enough to slip ‘em a Lincoln this latest time. I send a few bucks to Wikipedia now and again as well.

I wouldn’t use an adblocker if the ads were:

1. Minimal in design, not flashing or otherwise hijacking the browser/page.

2. Had no sound and did not autoplay.

3. Didn’t leave behind questionable cookies.

4. Didn’t use scripts that are borderline malware in some cases.

5. Didn’t track you across sites (see #3) yes my friend borrowed my phone/laptop to look up xyz, I don’t need to see ads now for xyz for the rest of the month.

There’s more to add but this is my top 5 right now. The fact that we are returning to almost Geocities level of bad ads is why adblockers have gotten better, faster, and stronger. I know people need to get paid but there also has to be some sort of standards here.

In general, I agree and had Jalopnik white-listed. Then the full screen, auto-play Penzoil ads came. Once burned, twice shy.

But yes, websites that don’t have annoying, invasive ads get a white-list.

I use Ghostery. That’s all I know.

I never visit Jalopnik. The writing in a run-of-the-mill post on Oppo is better than the writing on Jalopnik.

Oh... this is worrying. I toggled my adblocker for oppo and turned it ON (apparently it had been off). That said, with no visible ads on page it was blocking 7 elements. So... probably just bullshit background tracking crap.

After this comment I thought I would look that up. Added it to chrome.

There is some irony that the privacy add-in is asking to share my data...

Yes, probably that. Have you tried Ghostery?

See my below comment haha. I’m giving it a shot as a tracker blocker with AdBlockPlus as my adblocker and see how that goes.

I’ve used Privacy Badger in the past, but it created some massive usability issues.

Seems alright so far... though it broke Jalopnik... (Specifically I can’t login. Had this problem before when I blocked 3rd party cookies)
